Humbly Courageous
Hi, I’m Amy. I live life with a condition called Bethlem Myopathy which is a type of Muscular Dystrophy. I like to help others by showing how I live well with a debilitating condition. I was born with this disease, so it’s the only way I know life. I continue to work on embracing myself and using that to help others.

One thing changed everything

Hello! Welcome back to another blog! Last week Jamie and I had the opportunity to go and speak to a track club we used to belong to with our boys called Body in Training. We were asked to do the weekly devotional. I spoke first and then Jamie went after me sharing his part of our journey together. Luke is coaching at BIT this season, so he was there as well to hear us tell our story which was really awesome. The feedback we got after that evening was amazing. I realized even more, that it's not just people with Muscular Dystrophy that my story helps, but people struggling with all kinds of things in their lives. I was overwhelmed by some of the responses, and it was just more proof to me that God indeed is working through me because I am open to that. So, for this week's blog, I would like to share my part of the speech.  Here it is...... Hello, first of all I would like to thank Paul and Becky for inviting me here to speak to you all this evening. It’s an honor to be back wit

Life's a Beach

Hello! Welcome back! Last week I had a much needed break from the daily grind. A vacation at the beach! It's been awhile since I've been on a beach vacation as we were all halted from our travel plans over the past year. Normally, as a family we try to get to the beach at least every other year, but sometimes we veer onto another path into the mountains, or a big city we've never seen. I like that my boys have seen a lot of different places in the country. Good memories exploring new places together over the years.  My family and I have been going to the same beach in Florida for over 30 years now! It's a beautiful beach, and one that's certainly worth visiting over and over! Sometimes, it's a girls trip with my mom and sister, and several years it was with family and friends on spring break. Some of my best memories were made at this beach. This vacation was with my mom, dad, sister and my youngest son, Jack. I have to admit that I was a little nervous to trave

Gaining Independence living with Muscular Dystrophy

Hello, and welcome back! Independence.......this word can have a totally different meaning to someone who has lost their independence for an extended amount of time, than it does to someone who has never had to fully rely on someone else for every little thing.  This is a thing that you hold much more dearly when you've felt what it's like to have to rely on someone else to help you roll over in bed, to help you sit up, to help you shower, wash your hair, help you use the restroom, make all of your meals etc. Complete and total vulnerability. If you've never dealt with that, you just don't understand how that makes a person feel. For me, on a typical basis, I can do these things on my own. However there have been extended periods of time in my life when I did have to rely on someone else to fulfill my every want/need. In my younger years it was my parents, and my sister when I would have a surgery, or fractured a bone, or had a particularly weak period of time, and as I
